This house, located as close to the water as Seaside Code allows, is done in the Florida vernacular style much more prevalent amongst the houses of Seaside. Not content to leave it at that, however, Gorlin was inspired by F.L. Wright’s prairie style composition while designing this beachfront cottage. This fusion of styles is seen in the juxtaposition of overhanging eaves protecting large porches and walls of tall window panels. An inverse of the traditional house plan, the sleeping rooms were planned for the first floor, while a simple staircase leads up to the open, public spaces above. The language of the interior is kept very minimal and simple, to emphasize the natural setting of the house. The large rear porch offers views of the Gulf of Mexico, the dunes and the beach.
